I'm cheating! Revlon - Facets of Fuchsia (The Expressionist Collection Fall 2011)

I actually did this swatch months ago, if you follow the blog, you know I've had this polish in many post but I've never done some actual swatches. I love love love Deborah Lippmann's Bad Romance, it's been one of my all time favourite polishes for over a year and this one makes me feel like I'm cheating on DL! LOL anyways... you can see a caparison post between the two here

Facets of Fuchsia is a black jelly base with small purple glitter and large purple hexagon glitter in it. If I can remember correctly this was two coats plus a top coat of Seche Vite. This just started showing up in Vancouver in the last month or so. It's from The Expressionist Collection for Fall/Winter 2011, you can see the whole collection here. I loove this polish, probably cause it's a lot like Bad Romance! I found mine at a Target, it was $3.74 US. In Canada they can be found on displays with Carbonite in London Drugs and  Shoppers Drug Mart for around $5 CAD.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM THE LACQUER LOUNGE!

Hey guys! I just wanted to do a quick post wishing everyone a fun and safe Halloween! I can't believe October is over and done with! Which of course means Christmas is just around the corner!

Here is a round up of all the Halloween post at The Lacquer Lounge:

SPOTTED: Vancouver Nail Polish Shopping - Halloween Weekend

Here are some of the newest polishes that I've spotted around Vancouver today. Lots of holiday displays have started to appear! I'm so excited for the Holiday!

This Revlon display was found at London Drugs. It's Revlon's Spice It Up Collection for the Holidays. More twirly displays from revlon. My picks from this collection are Mistletoe and Glitz and Glam. These were $6.49 CAD each/15mL at London Drugs.

REVLON SPICE IT UP COLLECTION
FOR HOLIDAY 2011

This display was also at London Drugs. It's called Festive and it's Lise Watier Holiday collection for this year. It has two polishes, Festive Chic and Fairy Taupe. They also have a light inside the cap, to help "illuminate" as you paint. Kinda cool, probably won't help all that much, but still neat. My pick was Festive Chic. From what the cosmetic lady at London Drugs said, most stores only received two of each polish, I have no idea how true that is though. Lise Watier is also sold at The Bay and Sears, Sears ships anywhere in Canada. At London Drugs they were $12 CAD each/12 mL.

LISE WATIER FESTIVE HOLIDAY COLLECTION

FESTIVE CHIC & FAIRY TAUPE
CAP WITH A LIGHT!

This isn't a display but it sure should be cause I've been dying to see these!!! This is the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Designer Collection for Fall totally hidden! At first glance I thought these were just some sorta overflow or discontinued polishes, but nope it's the entire collection! I go to this particular London Drugs all the time cause it's close to work and I've never seen these before. So if you looking for any of these watch out for them, they could just be coming out here. My picks where Oxide a Tracy Reece colour and Green Tea also a Tracy Reece Colour. So happy to have found these! This is from a London Drugs on Hastings if that helps anyone. They were $7.99 CAD each.

SALLY HANSEN DESIGNER COLLECTION
FALL 2011

While I was in Pacific Center I stopped by Juicy Couture and noticed they had all of the Deborah Lippmann Holiday set out! They were about $53 - $57 CAD each. I'm loooving the packaging cause I looove anything pink! Totally beautiful.

JUICY COUTURE DEBORAH LIPPMANN
2011 HOLIDAY COLLECTION

The only new polish type item at Shoppers Drug Mart this week was this really nice Quo by Orly 18 piece mini collection. This was $39 CAD. It is Orly's regular collections repackaged for Quo. It has Cosmic FX, Mineral FX, Foil FX, and Oui from the Holiday Soiree Collection minis from what I can tell. I think this is an awesome set! Too bad I own all the colours I like in it otherwise this would be mine.

Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers Collection Halloween 2011

This is a round up of my links to this collection the only one I didn't do a post on was the Night Glow the glow in the dark polish. I'll put a few pictures of it below.

Wet n Wild - Behind Closed Doors (On The Prowl Collection Halloween 2011)

This is one of the two polishes I bought from the Wet n Wild On The Prowl Halloween collection. This is colour is called Behind Closed Doors. The other polish I bought from this collection was Cougar Attack (click here to see swatches). On The Prowl was a Halloween collection from Wet n Wild and had 8 limited edition polishes. Behind Closed Doors is a close match to Deborah Lippmann's Ruby Red Slippers. Both are a black base with red hexagon glitter and regular glitter scattered throughout.

I used one coat of OPI Black Onyx (plain black creme) and one coat of Behind Closed Doors, finished with Seche Vite top coat. I'm totally loving this. I'm just not totally sure when I'd actually wear this but the red really does pop against the black. I highly suggest using a black base with this one.

This collection was very hard to come by. When I did find these they were at a SuperStore in the Halloween section. They were $2.99 CAD each. I'm sure glad I found it!

Essie Luxeffects Holiday 2011 Collection

This is by far the Holiday collection I'm most excited for! The Luxeffects from Essie is due out in December. It's 5 sparkly, glittery, flakie gorgeous polishes.
Their names are: (from left to right)

- As Cold as it Gets
- Set in Stone
- Pure Pearlfection

Shine of the times has been the polish getting lots of hype, its a flakie! Everyone that missed out on Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure last year, I'm sure will get their flakie fix. I know I can't wait to swatch these!

THANKS FOR DROPPING IN!

Thursday Night = Grey's Anatomy (Wet n Wild - Gray's Anatomy)

#1 reason I love Thursdays? Cause Grey's Anatomy is on! Grey's Anatomy is the only show right now that I follow religiously. I like many shows but Grey's is the only one I MUST watch each week. So I admittedly only bought this polish for it's name. When I was about 8 or 9 years old, I use to looove Wet n Wild, they were 99 cents and when they were on sale they were only 69 cents.  My mom would let me buy like 5 of them at a time and I'd keep them all in a little rubbermaid bin. Such good memories. Now a days I have very new Wet n Wild polishes.

I used 3 coats to get something not so sheer and no top coat. Gray's Anatomy is part of Wet n Wilds collection of polishes that are gimmicky named after TV shows. It's a sheer duochrome. To me it's a pinkish/grey/green. Very pretty and subtle. Not an overly flashy polish. I'm really liking it. I would also suggest trying it over black. These are $2.99 CAD / $1.99 US per .5 oz bottle.

Wet n Wild - Cougar Attack (On The Prowl Collection Halloween 2011)

I'm so glad I finally found this one! This is Cougar Attack from Wet n Wild's On The Prowl Halloween Collection. It's a close match to Deborah Lippmann's Superstar. Both are copper/amber glitter with a medium brown base, total gorgeousness. This is over OPI Black Onyx (plain black creme). I used two coats of OPI Black Onyx and one coat of Cougar Attack finished with one coat of Seche Vite top coat.  I really wanted to try this over a chocolate brown polish, but realized I don't have any plain dark brown cremes! Browns have never been my thing, but I should try one sometime.

I found this one at SuperStore in the Halloween section. The only place I've seen displays of the On The Prowl Collection in Vancouver is in SuperStore, and I've noticed that not all SuperStores have the displays. Very hit or miss. It was $2.99 CAD and 100% worth it!

Quo by Orly - Celestial Star (aka Smurf polish)

I've had this sitting waiting to be post for way too long! This is Celestial Star from the Quo by Orly line. To see my other post about this new line click here. These are $10 CAD each, but for the last few weeks these have been on sale for $8.99. These polishes started showing up about two months ago and now they are coming out with more and more colours. The last Shoppers Drug Mart I was in had a shelf with about 20 colours. These are 14mL, the regular Orly polishes are 18mL. They have the famous rubberized Orly cap.

MAC Glitter and Ice Collection Nail Lacquers (Holiday 2011)

These are the nail polishes for MAC Holiday Glitter and Ice Collection. I like this collection a little more then last years collection. These are on sale starting today at www.maccosmetics.ca. The nail polishes have been getting a lot of talk. Especially the middle one pictured above, it's called Unconditionally Fabulous and its a suppose to be a close match to Deborah Lippmann Stairway to Heaven or China Glaze Snow Globe. All happen to me Limited Edition Holiday colours.

Top: Festive Finery (dirty midtone greyed violet)
Middle: Unconditionally Fabulous (super sparkly white)
Bottom: Get Noticed! (True bright red)

These are $19 CAD or $16 US / 10mL. I don't find any of these especially unique or worth the price tag. I've never really thought MAC's polishes were worth the price tag, and they usually let me down once I get them home. On the other hand I'm excited to see the MAC Garth Pugh Collection, I especially can't wait to see some swatches!

Stila is doing nail polish?

For the holiday season Stila is putting out two sets of nail polish. I believe they use to sell nail polish way way back, so I guess this is there chance to get back in to it. What cosmetic company that already has made a name for themselves wouldn't capitalize on the ever expanding nail polish market right?

So the set came up on the Stila website www.stilacosmetics.com. They are $24 US each and from what I can tell the website doesn't offer shipping to Canada. So hopefully some of the makeup stores here in Canada get them in stock.

The top set is named Delicate and the bottle named Daring. They are minis at .25 fl oz each.

Delicate has these polishes:
  • Icicle - clear base with rainbow multi-color glitter
  • Stardust - clear base with pink and purple glitter
  • Chandelier - clear base with deep purple & rainbow multi-color glitter
  • Kitten - nude base with gold and silver pearl
Daring has these polishes:

  • Confetti - clear base with green, red and gold glitter
  • Firecracker - clear base with ruby red sparkle
  • Disco Ball - clear base with purple and teal glitter
  • City Lights - gold with rainbow multi-color glitter
I think these are pretty, should have liked to see them put a few cremes in there, so a few more unique colours. But we have another brand to choose polish from :)

Butter London Holiday 2011 Collection

These just came up on the Butter London Canada site (www.butterlondon.ca). They came up on the Canadian site a bit later then the regular Butter London site, but they are here! Here is what the site says about the collection:

Introducing the Holiday 2011 Collection! Our newest collection was created to charm and delight. This holiday season Founding Creative Director Nonie Creme wanted to revisit the feeling of excitement and awe we felt as children at this time of year. The bespoke colours of our Holiday 2011 Collection include The Black Night, Tart With A Heart and Fairy Lights.

From left to right there is:

-Tart With A Heart (Who says pink glitter can’t be girly AND sexy?! This pale pink parade of glitter carries a dash of grey to tone down the sugar and ramp up the spice.) LIMITED EDITION. $17 CAD

-The Black Night (A dark dazzler from butter LONDON, this glitter fusion contains black, pink, blue, and silver suspended in a black base.) LIMITED EDITION. $17 CAD

-Fairy Lights (Fairy Lights are what the English call small white Christmas tree lights. Be a beacon to bad boys and the life of the party in dazzling “liquid metal” rose pink.) Does not specify as limited edition on website. $17 CAD

These can also be bought in a gift pack together for $44 CAD. You can also get free shipping on the Canadian website if you spend over $75. When I just tried to buy the gift pack, shipping to be here in Vancouver came out to $9.95. So I think I'll be waiting 'til they come in stores, since my school is just over a block away from Holts, why waste that much on shipping is what I'm figuring. I haven't seen these out yet in stores. I also couldn't find a directory on the website to tell me stores that carry their products. I do know that Holts carries them and so does Nordstroms if you shop in America.

The Halloween (no art skills necessary) Manicure

I have to say Halloween is the perfect time to bust out that "old" bottle of shatter/crackle nail polish. It's amazing how quickly fashion has it's turn around. I remember the first time I wore out my OPI Black Shatter and the girl at the MAC store was in complete awe, that was only this March! It's so funny, Black Shatter was completely hard to find, girls would stalk salons to find it and the salons that DID have it would charge up to $15 for a bottle! Now you can buy it anywhere. I feel like I've been tired of shatter for ages now. So this would be the perfect time to get some use out of it. I don't know about you but I keep my nail polishes in a dark closet but my OPI Shatter has gone very chunky already. So I figure it'll be a good time to get probably the last use out of it.

Anyways this is Wet N Wild Creepy Pumpkin (click here to see it on it's own) with a layer of OPI Black Shatter and Seche Vite top coat. I looooove how this turned out. The beautiful orange shimmer peaking out looks amazing. Perfect for girls like me that have a phobia of nail art. It doesn't take a lot of time and it has zero chances of going wrong... and so pretty! Look at the orange underneath!

Jessica Cosmetics - Shine On Collection (Holiday 2011)

I was just stalking some brand sites when I came across these. Totally cute bottles! It's a set for the holidays and it's $19.90 US. The website jessicacosmetics.com, say this about the holiday pack:

‘Tis the season to shimmer in pure colour perfection! Light up the night and celebrate the season with new festive colours by JESSICA that will have you shining brighter than a star. The SHINE ON Collection is a trio designed to bring colour and life to your lighthearted nights with spirited sparkles. Lucky Star is an irresistible gold glitter that adds a jewled accent to any look. For the girl who longs for a pair of ruby slippers to dance the night away, Starry Night, a splended sparkled red. Finally Superstar is a sassy silver glitter that twinkles like the moonlight! SHINE ON has everything you need to beam brighter than a ray of light!

The names of these are:
941 Starry Night
942 Lucky Star
943 Superstar

I'm not familiar with Jessica, I've only seen these sold sometimes at Winners. Shipping to me in Canada was an extra $12. So I'm not sure if it's worth just buying these alone, I might wait to see if there are any other things I want to order from them. On Body and Soul Blog she had a wicked promo pick for the Peacock Queen Collection that Jessica is coming out with, so maybe I'll wait for that to be available. It looks like an amazing collection, possible dupes for Chanel Peridot, Graphite, and Quartz!

About Julep Maven & November Bombshell Preview/Shelf Pull Options

This just popped in my inbox. It's a preview of next months Julep Maven box. For anyone unfamiliar with the Julep Maven subscription service: It's a monthly subscription that sends you nail polish and hand care items. It's $20 a month with free shipping, if you use the promo code INTRO5 you can receive the first month for $5!!! Once you sign up you also get a referral link, so if you refer any one you get a $15 credit to Julep's website, my link is (http://www.julep.com/AP.aspx?ID=520&EID=15680989).

There are various boxes you can get every month based on a simple quiz you take to start. My subscription is for he Bombshell boxes. There are also Classic with a Twist, Boho Glam, It Girl, American Beauty boxes. On the 20th of every month they send a preview e-mail like above and you have until the 25th of the month to decide if you would like to skip the box that month, send your box to a friend, get a "shelf pull" (pick a different box), or just receive your box as normal.

Once you sign up you also get a unique discount code to use for 20% off the items  on the Julep website, plus as a member you get free shipping. Nail polishes are $14 each and the hand creams are priced pretty high at $32.

Now... So you can make an informed decision...

- I've been waiting on my Julep October box for 20 days and still nothing! I do live in Vancouver, Canada and I understand international shipping takes awhile sometimes (believe me I'm all too aware, I order LOTS of polishes online). The tracking link says it's been sitting in Jamaica, NY for the last 11 days. I find it a little funny cause I live a very short distance from Seattle (where Julep is based), I go shopping in Seattle every other weekend. So for it to end up on the east coast is funny to me, but hey I have no idea how shipping companies work. This won't be a problem to everyone.

- I googled 'Julep Swatches' and a blog came up that had pictures of the older Julep bottles. I clicked on it at it had the polishes Samantha, Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte (all polish still available just repackaged now) the 'Sex and the City' pack. That post was from 2010 and that blogger listed the prices as $5.75 each or $19 for the four. So don't be too fooled by the $14 a polish price tag they have now.

- The site states that 'Each Sneak Peek Box features new, never before released colors and treatments FIRST to you, before anyone else,' now I don't find this to be completely true. From what I can see, they take the polishes down from the website for about a month then put the in the subscription boxes. At least thats what I've noticed for the last few. So just another thing to watch out for. I, obviously like everyone else, loves to be someone first in the know and on top of things so this totally sold me when I signed up, so it's kind of disappointing.

- Julep has had glitches in their system for sometime now. Many bloggers had a problem with their referal link not working, I wasn't a Julep subscriber back then but I can imagine how frusterating that would be. Just this past week my discount code wasn't working properly. So hopefully they work everything out as they are still fairly new to the subscription service.

The positives:

They do seem to be trying to fix there problems, and to me that means a lot. Customer service is key. Also a company that doesn't charge more for Canadians... SOLD. I love when companies treat me equal, they don't even charge an extra for shipping, awesome! A dollar from every polish sold is donated to different charities. Another thing that sold me was you aren't obligated and can cancel anytime.
I'm sticking with it for a while, I figure I might as well give them a chance. They seem to be trying. I figure the worst that would come out of it is a few polishes I really didn't need LOL

(Update) Yesterday I requested a "shelf pull" and today I received this in my e-mail:
I'm kinda interested in the "polish lover" option, where you receive three of the polishes and none of the little extras. The makeup bag wasn't my taste and I have enough lip gloss for two lifetimes.

Review: Bliss Salon in Vancouver, BC

ohhhh how I love not doing my own nails once in awhile! This past weekend I headed to Bliss Salon for a pedicure. I had used yelp.com to try to find a new nail place and this one popped up. I gave it a try because it had a few good reviews. It was VERY reasonably priced. $25 for a pedicure!!! For real? They don't offer too many treatments, they offer manicures, pedicures and hair cuts. It's a very small salon. It has two hair stations and three message chairs (which is where they also do the manicures/pedicures). It looked very clean, and new.  It had three people working there and they were all very friendly. They had a lot of OPI nail polishes to choose from, even from some of the newer collections which always makes me happy! They are located just outside of Yaletown. They have a nice website (www.blisssalon.ca), where they list the treatment prices. Over all I'm suuuper happy about my pedicure, it was one of the best I've received. She did an excellent job, I don't remember her name but it was the younger lady that works there. I'll be heading back again for sure. They do accept walk-ins but I would suggest calling ahead because it is a small place with few people working there.

Favourite Lacquers 2011: Joe Fresh - Twilight (S/S 2011 Collection)

My midterms are all over, I'm happy, so it's time to break out one of my all time favourite polishes. This is one of a very very few polishes that I have a "back up" of just in case I ever run out of the first bottle! I'm a huge believer that polishes get duped and copied so much that back ups aren't necessary, so to say that I have two of these is something. I also bought this polish as gifts for a few people when it came out too... ok enough talk about how much I love this stuff!

This is Joe Fresh in Twilight. I came out for Spring/Summer this year and I believe this was limited edition. I haven't seen it available at my SuperStore in the past while, but maybe they'll bring it back! I know I looooved Joe Fresh in Mint and it went away for about a year, and just recently I saw a whole new stock of them at my grocery store. So there is hope!

Jesse's Girl - Stiletto (Julie G Collection)

About a month ago I was shopping in Washington for the day and I picked up a few polishes from Jessie's Girl. One was Julie G which is part of there permanent line, named after the very sweet beauty "guru" on youtube Julie G. I also bought one called Stiletto, which is from the 'Julie G Collection' which is Limited Edition and available exclusively at Rite-Aid drug stores. This one is Stiletto, she describes this as a grey taupe, I would describe this as a very light dusty brown with subtle silver shimmer to it. It's named Stiletto because she said that its her favourite kind of shoe, very cute! It's a little too light for my taste but overall it's a great work neutral.

It was $3.99 US. I included a picture of of the display below. There are a bunch of other colours in the collection. Here is a link to Julie G's video about her collection. I suggest checking her out! She's such a sweet heart. She has some great nail tutorials on her youtube channel.

In Canada they are available at Holts and the Bay. If your American you can buy these online with free shipping when you spend over $100 from Chanel.com, and from Nordstroms (in store or online). The Yves Saint Laurent Holiday 2011 Trio (The Black Collection)

Nordstroms website says this about the trio:  This irresistible set includes three limited-edition nail lacquers in gorgeous new colors for the season. The pearlized, metallic dark colors will sparkle in the holiday celebration. Contains La Laque No. 126 Black Bronze, No. 127 Black Lapis and No. 128 Black Indigo. (My guess is that they are named from right to left)

I can't be the only one swooning right now! I can't even choose a favourite right now! I'm loooving all three. This set has moved to the very top of my holiday lacquer wish list! By far the most richest colours from any Holiday collection so far. On the website this is $47.96 CAD or $45 US. Buuuutttt when you head to the check out this little screen pops up.

Yeah... No Canadian love :( I'll just have to find this somewhere else, oooh well. I had my card in hand ready to go too... damn! If you do live in the US you also get free shipping from the Nordstroms website, here is the link to the page with the trio. Has anyone seen this set in Canada yet? Let me know!!! & Hopefully I can put some swatches up. Hope everyone is having a good Monday.

OPI - Designer... De Better (Muppet Collection Holiday 2011)

I'm so loooving this collection! This is OPI's Designer... De Better from the Muppets Holiday Collection. I feel like this one is a good Fall colour too as metallics are great for Fall. This is the second polish from the collection that I'm swatching.

It's a foil polish, thats mainly silver with bronze speckles. At first glance I thought this was a rose gold colour, but looking closer it is silver/bronze.

This is one of my favourites from this collection. This collection should be hitting salons fairly soon. In Canada these are about $9-$10 CAD and in the states it a little less. OPI can be found in London Drugs, Chatters, and salons. In the states it can be found at Trade Secret, Target, and salons.

China Glaze - Tinsel Town (Let It Snow Collection Holiday 2011)

This is Tinsel Town from the Let It Snow Holiday Collection from China Glaze. It's a totally winner in my books. Perfect application, perfect colour, just perfect! Can't rave enough about it. It's a charcoal type colour with silver glitter, the glitter is round in small and medium size. Can I just say that China Glaze has some perfect glitters lately! I'm not even a glitter gal, I'm more of a chic taupe kinda gal, but these steal my heart! I used two coats and didn't use a top coat for the pictures.

The collection had 12 polishes and many many assorted gift packs.

These are available at Chatters, Sally's Beauty Supply and select salons. They retail for about $6 CAD or $5 US.
